Be the inspiration

Activity 1: New Zealand will be sending approximately 76 athletes to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August to compete in the Summer Olympic Games. To learn more about these amazing athletes you can read their biographies on the New Zealand Olympic team website. Each athlete has their own page dedicated to them. For this activity, please choose one of the athletes listed on the Rio Olympic Athletes page, read about them and then write a short description of them on your blog. In the blog please include their name, their sport, and three interesting facts about them.

My athelete is
Valerie adams and her sport is shot put

1st fact: Rio will be Valerie's fourth Olympic Games having won gold in the shot put at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and finishing seventh in her debut at Athens 2004.

2nd fact: Valerie has been the dominant women's shot putter in the world since 2006, only beaten twice in major world events during that period and having an unprecedented winning streak of 56 competitions between 2010 and 2014. She was the IAAF world female athlete of the year for 2014.

3rd fact:Valerie is on the comeback after shoulder and elbow surgery in 2014. She finished third at the recent World Indoor Championships.
Activity 2: Let’s imagine that you were able to meet one of the following three athletes competing for New Zealand at the Rio Olympics:

it would be an honor to meet 1 of these sports legends it would be so cool and just imagine all the tips and lessons they could give you it would be amazing i would be speechless

if i could meet 1 of them it would be Stuart Farquhar
i just love javelin so much and if he could teach that would be my reason why i chose him

Bonus:  The New Zealand Olympic Team has created a video called #Be The Inspiration. They have posted it on the homepage of their website (on the left hand side). Watch the Be the Inspiration video and then post a critique of the video on your blog. In your critique tell us what you liked about the video and what you didn’t like. It is very common for movie reviewers to use stars to indicate how much they liked a movie. A rating of * = very bad movie, ** = bad movie, *** = okay movie, **** = good movie, and ***** = very good movie. At the end of your critique, please provide a rating for the Be The Inspiration movie.

the movie was inspiring for all athletes, kids and people around the world it is amazing i would rate the movie:***** cause it is an amazing example of inspiration for people worldwide so yeah

  1. Hi Anahere,

Wow! You have been busy doing an awesome job with your blogging. Every time I check your blog you have posted a number of new activity blogs. Excellent work!

On that note, your blog from Day 3 is really interesting. You have profiled two different athletes, one of whom is very well known (Valerie Adams) and the other who is slightly less famous (Stuart Farquhar). I really like that you have chosen Stuart as your NZ athlete of choice. He sounds like a really interesting man and he competes in such a dynamic sport. I must admit that I don't know very much about javelin but, like you, I would love to know more and I'm sure that Stuart could teach us. After reading his bio, it became clear to me that he has been competing for years and I am sure that he would love to share his knowledge and passion for the game with others.

Speaking of passion, I thought that the #Be the Inspiration movie was full of passion and enthusiasm for sport in New Zealand. I found it quite inspirational! I'm so glad that you also enjoyed it and gave it 5 stars!

Keep up the great work, Anahere. You are really setting a great example for others to follow!

    Cheers, Rachel :)
