Summer learning journey day 2

Day 2 – Learning the basics
Now that you have chosen your country, it is time to decide where, within your country, you would like to visit. Many tourists will choose to visit the capital city of a country. It is often quite large and full of interesting things to see and do.
Activity 1
Before you go overseas it will be important that you learn a bit about the capital city of your country. Hop online and find out about the capital city of your country. Use this information to complete the five sentences below:
  1. The name of the capital city is ____canberra_______________________
  2. The population of the capital city is ____381,488___________________
  3. In January, the weather in the capital city is usually ___sunny ____________________
  4. The capital city is located in the ___________northern__________ (northern, southern, middle) part of the country.
  5. The languages most commonly spoken in the capital city are ___________________________english or with an accent____________________________
Activity 2
One of the most popular activities in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is called ‘Bullfighting.’ It has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull. The toreros do most of the fighting and, ultimately, capture the bull and tie it up. Once it has been caught, the matador joins the fight and kills the bull. Although most toreros and matadors are men, there are some women who also compete in the sport.

Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely. What do you think? On your blog tell us whether or not you think that bullfighting should be banned in Spain. Please provide, at least, two reasons to support your decision.

I think that bull fighting should be stopped
I think it should be stopped because it is killing the population of bulls all around
I think it should be banned because whats the point of killing bulls and being proud i would feel guilty if you do this for sport you must not have a heart

Bonus activity
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. Have you been to Wellington? If so, please tell us about two things that you did when you were in Wellington.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to go to Wellington, follow the link to learn more about this very cool city: Discover Wellington.
On your blog, tell us what two things you would like to do if you had the chance to visit Wellington. Would you go to the botanical gardens or visit the Beehive? Perhaps you would prefer to go shopping on Cuba Street or go out for dinner on Quay Street…
i went to the beehive in wellington
and i went to see my aunty and cousins that i haven't seen in years

Summer learning journey

Week 1: Ready, Steady…Go!
World - expanded.png
www.ethnologue.com/world
Day 1 – Choosing a destination
The world is a very big and very cool place. There are currently 196 countries and approximately 7.1 billion people living on earth. For this project we are going to focus on just 10 countries across 6 continents – Canada (North America), Mexico (Central America), Chile (South America), England (Europe), Germany (Europe), South Africa (Africa), United Arab Emirates (Middle East), Japan (Asia), Malaysia (South-East Asia), and Australia (Australasia).
Please click on the World Map tab on the main menu. It will bring you to a big map. One by one click on the names of the countries and ready the ‘Quick Facts’ about each place.

Activities
Activity 1
After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.
I have chosen australia because it is like my second nz so if nz wasn't around i would be at australia and i have always wanted to visit austrailia

I have chosen australia also because i love the spiders, and kangaroos and koula's
it so cool seeing amazing creatures like that

Activity 2
On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.
  • The outback of australia covers most of the land
  • The name of of australia is originated from the latin word australis meaning the southern
  • Australia is the home of very strange yet unique animals such as the emu ,koula and the kookaburra

Bonus Activity
Write a letter to a friend or family member to tell them that you are going to visit your country of choice. In your letter, please tell them where you are going, why you have decided to go to the particular country and how long you will be away. Feel free to invite them to join you, if you’d like!
Dear hone i would like for you to join me on coming to australia o have chosen to go here because i love the animals and life and i will be gone for 1 week come along if your free

WALT: we were learning about fair testing here is someof the work me and seini are doing in ruapehu

Writig week 8 Science experiment gone wrong

Dr. Brooklyn  believed that localized infections were the root causes of insanity. After he became the head of an insane asylum in Trenton in 1907, he began implementing a procedure he dubbed “surgical bacteriology.” During that time, Cotton and his team performed thousands of surgical operations on patients, often without their consent. First, they extracted teeth and tonsils; if that wasn’t enough, they would go deeper and remove the internal organs   which they believed were causing the problems. He believed in his methods so much that he even performed them on himself and his family. He extracted teeth from himself, his wife, and his two sons (one of whom also had part of his colon removed).
Cotton claimed that his treatments had a high rate of curing patients, and that claim soon became a lightning rod for critics who found his work appalling. In one instance, he justified the deaths of 49 patients from the colectomies and stated that they were already suffering from “end-stage psychosis” prior to the operations. An independent investigation later revealed that Cotton greatly exaggerated the results. After his death in 1933, the surgeries at the asylum ceased and Cotton’s viewpoints faded into obscurity. To his credit, critics ruled that he really was sincere in his efforts to cure his patients, albeit in an insane, deluded way

THIS IS OUR WRITING AND READING WORK FROM THE WEEK ABOUT MATTER AND REWRITING INSTRUCTIONS

Instructions should have clear, simple steps so you don’t confuse the person reading them.
Can you make these various instructions easier to understand?

Pick up an egg, gently hit it against the side of a bowl and empty the contents into a clean bowl.
First get an egg and crack it into the bowl
Open the fridge and take out the butter. Take off the lid. Get a knife and use it to scoop some butter. Rub the knife onto the toast.
Get the butter and spread it onto the toast using a knife
Hold the two shortest sides of paper and bend them together. Squeeze them so that the paper is now in half.
Fold the shorter sides of the paper
When you hear the sound of the whistle, move one leg in front of the other as quickly as you can.
When you hear the whistle start running as fast as you can
When player One had rolled the die, they should hand it to player Two, who should then roll it too. The person with the highest score moves their counter first.
Each player has to roll the dice then see who gets a higher number the die
If you want to turn on the computer, look for the round, lack power button and press it once.
When you wanna turn the computer on press the on button
Hold the handles of the scissors and cut along the dotted line, making sure you don’t hurt yourself.
Hold the orange part of the scissors and then ut along the dotted line but be careful
Before you start mixing the ingredients, switch on the oven and turn the dial to 140 degrees.
Before stirring the mix turn the oven on and turn the knob to 140 degrees
Take the lid off the glue stick and rub the glue on the tab, being careful not to get any glue on your clothes.
Take the lid of the glue and put it on the tab and make sure you don’t make a mess
When you have planted your seed, pick up the pot and move it it near to a window where it will get lots of sunlight.
After planting your seed move the pot by the window so it will get sunlight

Science work

Title -
Purpose: What do you want to learn/find out?
What type of fizzy drink tastes better?

Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is ‘educated guess’. This is usually stated like ” If I…(do something) then…(this will occur)
  1. fanta
  2. Sparkling  raspberry - Anahere
  3. Mountain dew
  4. homebrand

Materials: List everything you will need to conduct your experiment.
  • drinks (brand)
  • 4 Cups
  • Marker
  • Contestants (2-4

Experiment procedure: The fun part! Design a test or procedure to confirm or disprove your hypothesis. Write down each step so that someone else could do the same experiment.
1. Pour a small amount of each fizzy drink into a cup
2. Number each cup 1-4 making sure you are aware which fizzy drink correspond to each number.
3. Get 3-4 contestants to try for you.
4. Your questions will be!
5. Which of the brands did you like?

Analysis/Data: Record what happened during the experiment.

Mr wiseman: number 2 - Sparkle
Mahana: number 4 - Rasberry
Sateki: number 3 - Rasberry
Owen: number 2 - Sparkle
Wesley: number 2 - Sparkle
Flynlay : number 2 - Sparkle

Conclusion:Review the data and check to see if your hypothesis was correct.

Our findings were fun and scientific, we all knew which brand of drink would of won. But in their findings we were wrong.

This is our science work we have been doin g in groups with different experiments but we had fizzy drinks

The amount of light
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
Growth
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
plant ,humidity,container soil

The students of Room 4 wanted to find out what colour of bird feeders birds preferred. FIll our the table below thinking of which variables you would make independent, dependent and controlled.

Aim - what are you trying to find out?
Which colour bird feeders birds prefer
Hypothesis - what do you think your results will be?
Brown or green
Independent Variable - what variable will you change?
The colour
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
The  amount of bird food thats gone
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
Type of food, same amount of food ,same location

states of matter

In literacy we were learning about states of matter .

Matter is all around us. Matter is the air you are breathing. Matter is the stuff you touch and see. And it is more. Matter is defined as anything that has Mass and takes up space. Matter is found in 3 major states; solid, liquid and gas.

Matter can move from one state to another, but can still be the same substance. A change of state, also called a phase change, is a physical change from one state of matter to another, for example, from solid to liquid or from liquid to gas.

Image result for solids liquids and gases science experiments
How does matter move from one phase to another? If the motion of the atoms is altered by pressure or temperature, the state can change too. By lowering the temperature of water, it can freeze into a solid. By heating water, it can become steam which is a gas. Whether solid, liquid or gas ‐ water is still water.
Pressure can change matter from one state to another. Deep in the earth solids turn to liquids because the heavy weight of layers and layers of the earth push down on the solids causing them to turn to liquid Magma . This is just one example of how pressure can change matter too.  Other matter changes too, but often only exists in two states or requires the help of humans and technology to move through all three phases. Water is the only matter on earth that can be found naturally in all three - solid, liquid and a gas.

Below is a video for changes in states of matter enjoy

Memories and Funny moments:
One of the funniest moments of term 3 was when i went hardcore at soccer bumped the boys off they were crying for a while. One of the other funny moments was when the boys go and kick the ball and Fall over and faceplant in the mudand then dani just keep bumping mubashire and lomio off while me and dezbump off zack and angelo.I remeber when we were doing just dance and we were doing all about that bass and the boys were pretending to be girls.

MY Goals:
One of my goals would be stop being dodgy i’ll try but to be honest i am queen dodgy it is my plague but it ok another goal would be stop talking and laughing to and at the boys.Stop swearing and fighting the boys and finishing of my maths work.

Appreciation for the  teachers and family:
I appreciate everything miss berry,Matua lewin,Whaea saph, miss nua, miss vaafusuaga,mr wisemen, miss flavell, miss tele’a,miss clark and mr burt have taught me throughout the year from the start to the end.All the maths i couldn’t quite get miss nua and miss vaafusuaga and miss tele’a have helped get me to higher standards in math like x100 more. All the literacy miss Berry and matua lewin always help me get all the work i have easier and so i can finish so later i have that little bit of fun everyone enjoys.I also thank miss clark for doing AL7 with us for rotation and walking us down to the college every thursday and matua lewin doing te reo and youthtown doing youthtown. Last but not least i appreciate miss flavell giving me opportunities i could never dream so all i can say in 2 words  Is
THANK YOU

 Thanks mum and dad:
Whether it was the way you comforted me when i was down,or the way your hugs magically wiped away the frowns,Mum and dad you have been there day after day to make sure my life would turn out this way
