Spirit in motion

DAY 7: Spirit in Motion –The Paralympic Games

Fun Fact: This year the Paralympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro from 7-18 September. Athletes from 176 different countries will be competing at the games this year!

Approximately one month after the Olympic Games finish, there is a second Olympic competition. This competition is specifically for athletes who have physical disabilities. It is called the Paralympics. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy in 1960.

To view the promotional video for the Paralympic Games, check out this link!

Activity 1: At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paraclycing team (NZ).jpg

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

i would choose my dad he is always there to guide me during life and biking he taught me how to now he could teach me how to to do this is a carrier

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paralympic logo Nz.jpg

Me and my friends could make cakes ,cupcakes and fudge it would be good money cause we usually get $1000 so we could give that for the funds
or we could do a pt england school concert tickets only $2
Bonus: This year two new sports are being added to the Paralympic Games. They are canoeing and triathlon. In the triathlon the athletes must swim 750 metres, cycle for 20 kilometres, and then run for 5 kilometres. Paralympic athletes may also compete in other sports including archery, boccia, football, judo, powerlifting, rowing, sailing, swimming, sitting volleyball, track cycling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, and wheelchair tennis. To learn more about all of the Paralympic sports, please visit the 2016 Paralympic Games website.

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

My sport is called trampoline bounce
how to play the sport:
first you have to make up a combo of flips and do them perfectly but you have to do the first 2 mixed into 1 flip
rules:
1: you can't fall or slip during the flips
2: you must do your own made up flip in your combo
3: you have to do a a trick during flips

Loved all the blogs finish rachel thanks for the opportunity

Day 6 entertaining the crowd

Activity 1: For all Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes from each country must wear a special uniform. The uniforms change each year. Look at the 3 pictures posted below. They are pictures of the uniforms that our New Zealand Olympic teams wore in 2012, 2008 and 2004. For this activity, you are asked to rank the uniforms from best (#1) to worst (#3). On your blog post your rankings and provide a brief explanation of why you ranked the uniforms in that order.

  1. New Zealand Team Uniform – London Olympics 2012

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\2012 NZ Uniform.jpg
2.New Zealand Team Uniform – Beijing Olympics 2008

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\2012 NZ Uniform.jpg
Activity 2: The opening ceremonies for every Olympic Games must include formal speeches, a parade of athletes, songs and dances that showcase the culture of the host country. Follow this link to watch the highlights of opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

In the opening ceremony for the London Olympics there were a number of famous English people including the Queen, the Spice Girls, David Bowie, U2, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Imagine that we were going to host the Olympics here in New Zealand in 2024 and you were invited to be on the committee that decides who is invited to participate in the opening ceremonies. As a member of the group you must choose one of the following people to be in the opening ceremony: Richie McCaw (rugby player), Lorde (singer), Kane Williamson (cricket player), Maria Tutaia (netball player), John Key (prime minister of New Zealand) or Shaun Johnson (league player). On your blog, tell us who you think is the best person to choose and explain why you think that they are the best choice!

Who i chose:
Richie McCaw
he is my man and he is an amazing rugby player and he has an experience with sports and has inspiring things to say and he could inspire someone to be in the place he is today

Bonus: Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden…

In your blog, write an ending to this short story. It should be approximately 10-20 sentences long.

then all of a sudden they hear something so they stop and think what is that and then it came out and stole usain bolt and then more people went missing none knew what it was.
it came so fast it shocked everyone with its speed then they went out of the stadium and found usain bolt sitting there but why would something steal he and leave him out there. could he be reeling us in. just tricking us. noone wanted to go out then richie mccaw came and grabbed usain bolt and ran back with him usain bolt was saying he was scared but then something came and saved him. he said it was the spirit of the olympian milo of Kronton. everyone was saying didn't he die years ago. yes a voice in the voice said i did die years ago but i have come to reclaim the rule for no girls in the olympics it is what we do i couldn't let that man take i had to finish this myself. but why the crowd and olympians said. Because in my day it was the rule and i'm keeping it a rule if you don't listen i will stop the olympics.you wouldn't dare usain bolt said what power do you have over us.i have much power i'm like a wizard or genie or sultan i have alot of power and i would stop the olympics if it means no girls. and then when he said that all the girls started singing

they sang that song and then he was frightened and he backed away and his power was destroyed as of he.
and the olympics was saved.
to be continued ..

Eddie the eagle

Activity 1: Some Olympic athletes become famous not because they win but because they have an amazing attitude and great determination. They are sometimes called ‘underdogs.’ One of the most famous ‘underdogs’ in Olympic history was a man named Michael Edwards. He was a ski jumper from England who competed in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. Although he came last in the event, he never gave up. Recently, a movie has been made about his life. It is calledEddie the Eagle.”  For this activity, watch the trailer for Eddie the Eagle and then post a summary of the movie on your blog. What is the movie about? just go search up the trailer

Summary:

it was about eddy trying to prove people wrong and prove that he can go to the olympics  and he took jumping very seriously even if he went to hospital or not he never stopped trying.
dear rachel williams  to support this summary i would like to put a song on  try everything

Activity 2:  In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask the Olympic champion (if you had the chance to meet her!).

1st question: what motivated you to do the springboard diving?

2nd question: how did it feel to find out you won?

3rd: question: did you love doing the olympics

4th question: was winning the springboard diving been your dream or no?

5th question: who inspired you who is your idol?

Bonus:  Jesse Owens was a black American athlete who participated in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He is considered to be one of the bravest and most inspirational Olympic athletes because he competed at a time when the leader of Germany (Adolf Hitler) did not want black men competing at the Olympic Games. Here is a picture of Jesse from the 1930s.C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Jesse Owens image.jpg

Can you think of someone in your own life that inspires you? On your blog, tell us who your inspirational person is and why they inspire you.

who inspires me?
my parents they always motivate me to try everything and enjoy myself while doing so
they are just amazing they are so helpful, kind, amazing and how many times they tell me not to give up and try try again and i yeah i'm just speechless actually, they are spectacular and they are my inspiration to get up in the morning and do everything at school my hardest and
i love them so so much for that so yeah they inspire me everyday.

Be the inspiration

Activity 1: New Zealand will be sending approximately 76 athletes to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August to compete in the Summer Olympic Games. To learn more about these amazing athletes you can read their biographies on the New Zealand Olympic team website. Each athlete has their own page dedicated to them. For this activity, please choose one of the athletes listed on the Rio Olympic Athletes page, read about them and then write a short description of them on your blog. In the blog please include their name, their sport, and three interesting facts about them.

My athelete is
Valerie adams and her sport is shot put

1st fact: Rio will be Valerie's fourth Olympic Games having won gold in the shot put at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and finishing seventh in her debut at Athens 2004.

2nd fact: Valerie has been the dominant women's shot putter in the world since 2006, only beaten twice in major world events during that period and having an unprecedented winning streak of 56 competitions between 2010 and 2014. She was the IAAF world female athlete of the year for 2014.

3rd fact:Valerie is on the comeback after shoulder and elbow surgery in 2014. She finished third at the recent World Indoor Championships.
Activity 2: Let’s imagine that you were able to meet one of the following three athletes competing for New Zealand at the Rio Olympics:

it would be an honor to meet 1 of these sports legends it would be so cool and just imagine all the tips and lessons they could give you it would be amazing i would be speechless

if i could meet 1 of them it would be Stuart Farquhar
i just love javelin so much and if he could teach that would be my reason why i chose him

Bonus:  The New Zealand Olympic Team has created a video called #Be The Inspiration. They have posted it on the homepage of their website (on the left hand side). Watch the Be the Inspiration video and then post a critique of the video on your blog. In your critique tell us what you liked about the video and what you didn’t like. It is very common for movie reviewers to use stars to indicate how much they liked a movie. A rating of * = very bad movie, ** = bad movie, *** = okay movie, **** = good movie, and ***** = very good movie. At the end of your critique, please provide a rating for the Be The Inspiration movie.

the movie was inspiring for all athletes, kids and people around the world it is amazing i would rate the movie:***** cause it is an amazing example of inspiration for people worldwide so yeah

sports specific

Activity 1: Visit the website for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Click on the name of the one of the sports that is listed on the main page. If possible, choose one that you have never heard of before and read about it. After reading about the sport, post a short description of it on your blog. The post must include:

A:The name of the sport

B:The aim of the sport

C:Two rules for the sport

The name of the sport is the pentathlon i have never heard of it
and the aim of the sport is that Athletes are to compete in fencing, swimming and horse riding, followed by a combined running and shooting event, with the first to cross the line winning the gold medal. And all of this happens on one day!

It has been supported by some researchers that the athletes competed in all five games and the last two winners confronted each other in wrestling. The final winner of the pentathlon was declared victor.

in the end i didn't find any rules of this game in every website it just said that it was an unsolved mystery

Activity 2:Take a picture of yourself playing one of the 28 Olympic sports and post it to your blog along with the name of the sport and a brief description of what you are doing in the picture.

curently not working

Bonus: This year two sports are being reintroduced into the Olympic Games. They are golf and sevens rugby. Imagine that you worked for TVNZ and you were paid to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Olympic Games and report on the golf and/or the rugby competitions. On your blog, write a poem that describes how you would feel about travelling to Rio. Would you be excited? Would you be scared? How would you feel?

Tom and vinicius

:Activity 1: The mascots for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are Vinicius and Tom. They can be found on all of the advertisements for the Olympic Games and they have also been featured in a number of videos.

Episode 3:
They find a bird house and thought they could live in it
but it was two small and then they found some wood and made two houses in a tree for them but when they slept in them they couldn't sleep so they got up and walked outside and 1 slept on the tree and 1 slept on the lily pad

Activity 2: Rio de Janeiro, the host of Olympic Games this year, is a huge, vibrant and dynamic city. Perhaps the most famous landmark in the city is a large statue of Jesus called ‘Christ the Redeemer’ that sits on top of a hill overlooking Rio. Here is a picture of the statue:

New Zealand is also known for many famous landmarks, including the SkyTower and the Harbour Bridge. In your blog list 3 famous landmarks in New Zealand. Along with the name of each landmark provide a brief description of it. Where is the landmark located? In your opinion, why is it famous?

The Sky Tower, One Tree Hill and the Beehive in
Wellington.

About the sky tower: The upper portion of the tower contains two restaurants and a cafe—including New Zealand's only revolving restaurant, located 190 m (620 ft) from the ground, which turns 360 degrees every hour. There is also a brasserie-style buffet located one floor above the main observatory level. It has three observation decks at different heights, each providing 360-degree views of the city. The main observation level at 186 m (610 ft) has 38 mm (1.5 in) thick glass sections of flooring giving a view straight to the ground. The top observation deck labeled "Skydeck" sits just below the main antenna at 220 m (720 ft) and gives views of up to 82 km (51 mi) in the distance.
The tower also features the "SkyJump", a 192-metre (630 ft) jump from the observation deck, during which a jumper can reach up to 85 km/h (53 mph). The jump is guide-cable-controlled to prevent jumpers from colliding with the tower in case of wind gusts Climbs into the antenna mast portion (300 m or 980 ft heights) are also possible for tour group as is a walk around the exterior
About one tree hill:
Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill is a 182-metre (597 ft) volcanic peak in auckland New zealand  It is an important memorial place for both Maori  and other New Zealanders. The suburb around the base of the hill is also called One Tree Hill. It is surrounded by the suburbs of royal oak to the west, and clockwise,Epsom,Greenlane, oranga, and onehunga. The summit provides views across the Auckland area, and allows visitors to see both of Auckland's harbours.
The hill's scoria cones were erupted from three craters – one is intact and two have been breached by lava flows that rafted away part of the side of the scoria cone. Lava flows went in all directions, many towards Onehunga, covering an area of 20 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi), making it the second largest (in area covered) of the auckland volcanic field behind Rangitoto. The age of eruption is currently unknown, but it is older than 28,500 years as it has a mantling of volcanic ash erupted at that time from te  tatua-a-riukiuta volcano.
 About the beehive:
The building is ten storeys (72 m) high and has four floors below ground. The entrance foyer's core is decorated with marble floors, stainless steel mesh wall panels, and a translucent glass ceiling
The Beehive's brown roof is constructed from 20 tonnes of hand-welted and seamed copper It has developed a naturally weathered appearance. A tunnel leads from the building under Bowen Street, linking the Beehive with parliamentary offices in Bowen House. The Beehive is extensively decorated with New Zealand art. On the inner wall of the Banquet Hall is a large notable mural by John Drawbridge portraying the atmosphere and sky of New Zealand.
The Beehive's circular footprint  is generally considered an elegant and distinctive design feature. However it is also quite impractical, as many of its rooms are wedge-shaped, curved or asymmetrical. An extension has been built out the front to allow for a new security entrance. A new, bomb-proof mail delivery room has already been built at the rear of the building.

My opinion:
i think they are famous cause they are some of the most advanced buildings ever
i love them myself they are so cool
